Exploring a potential biomarker and drug target for Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are the two most frequent types of dementia. In this project we will study a neuron-specific mechanism that is dysregulated in AD/FTD and controls proteolytic cleavage of key membrane proteins involved in AD and FTD. We aim to show that this mechanism can be targeted to rescue pathological features associated with AD/FTD and can be exploited for biomarker purposes.
