Our clear focus on the brain and brain research stems from the fact that brain disorders impose significant costs on society, patients, and their families. This was documented in the Brain Report from 2021, which has now been updated with new data and analyses.
The report shows that:
- More than one in three Danes live with a brain disorder, identified either through hospital diagnoses or filled prescriptions indicating a brain disorder.
- The direct and indirect costs associated with brain disorders amount to approximately 230 billion DKK annually.
- The mortality rate among individuals with brain disorders is, on average, 5 times higher within one year compared to those without.
The Brain Report was initiated and funded by the Lundbeck Foundation and prepared by researchers from Aarhus University.
