The Pioneer Center aims to support world-class research in artificial intelligence (AI) with a focus on societal challenges, people, and design – while also placing Denmark at the forefront internationally.

In addition to disciplines such as machine learning and deep learning, the pioneer centre researchers also work on the ethical aspects of AI and how to design technologies built on artificial intelligence in such a way that they are accepted and understood by those who need them.

Examples of AI research fields:

  • Theoretical foundations of AI
  • High performance computing for AI applications
  • Robotics and automatization
  • AI for next generation health care
  • AI for energy and climate data analysis 
Facts about pioneer centres

The ambition behind the pioneer centre initiative is to establish excellent research units that carry out fundamental research aimed at providing transformative solutions to major societal challenges. 

The centres are established at the initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and developed in close cooperation (and co-financing) between the Minister, the Danish National Research Foundation, the Carlsberg Foundation, the Lundbeck Foundation, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Villum Foundation and the universities.
