Understanding sex-specific impact of metabolic syndrome-driven inflammation on post-stroke recovery
Professor

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability. Metabolic diseases (MetSy) like obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood lipids, and high blood pressure, combined with an unhealthy lifestyle, increase stroke risk. Men with MetSy have twice the stroke risk compared to women. We aim to study gender-specific effects of MetSy on stroke using mice and human data. We will identify cellular interactions crucial for regeneration to improve outcomes for MetSy-related stroke patients.
