Uncovering the molecular foundations for exercise in skeletal muscle to mitigate sarcopenia

Postdoc
University of Copenhagen

Tang Cam Phung Pham, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, has been awarded a postdoc research grant from the Lundbeck Foundation worth DKK 2.382.968

Sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass, significantly impacts quality of life and increases the risk of mortality from age-related diseases. While exercise can mitigate sarcopenia, the precise biological mechanisms remain unclear.
By utilizing a novel mouse model with dual ribosomal labeling, her project seeks to distinguish in vivo between cytosolic and mitochondrial translation in aging and with exercise. The results obtained will be translated into human studies, offering potential treatment targets for sarcopenia, which is a pressing concern in our aging population.
