The APPLE TREE study

Doctor
Herlev and Gentofte Hospital

Daniel Christensen, Department of Cardiology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, has been awarded an Early-career clinician scientist research grant worth DKK 916.199.

The APPLE TREE study aims to compare the two SGLT2 inhibitors, empagliflozin and dapagliflozin, using an innovative pragmatic, cluster-randomized study design. The trial will inform clinical practice by comparing the two most widely used SGLT2-inhibitors, which are becoming cornerstone treatments for diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. Perhaps more importantly, with its novel approach, The APPLE TREE Study may pave the way for future head-to-head studies of drugs within the same class, which are valuable clinically, but currently very rarely pursued due to restrictions in traditional clinical trial designs.
