Targeted drusen solubilisation as a prevention against late stage age-related macular degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness for people above the age of 55. AMD is associated with the deposition of fat bodies (drusen) in the retina. Drusen grow throughout disease development, eventually causing the retina to die. Here we will develop a new therapeutic that will target drusen in the retina, dissolve drusen away and allow the retina to return to healthy function. This will then save patient vision.
