In this project, we will conduct a randomized clinical trial with an integrated brain imaging part to determine if women with a depressive episode who use oral contraception benefit or not from discontinuing it while receiving antidepressant treatment and whether discontinuation restores brain serotonin architecture. This will be supported by a nationwide observational study on women who uses antidepressant medication to see how the treatment is affected by concomitant use of hormonal contraception."
