Cecilie Velsø Mæng

Patients with acute leukaemia (an aggressive type of blood cancer) can experience serious complications during their treatment, requiring admission to intensive care units – i.e. hospital wards for seriously ill patients.

When acute leukaemia requires intensive care

Cecilie Velsø Mæng wants to learn more about which patients are at particular risk of such complications and how they fare after intensive care.

Cecilie is one of five medical students who have been accepted into our DARE programme (Danish-American Research Exchange) this year. She will therefore have the opportunity to work with some of the best researchers in the field and contribute to research on risk factors and outcomes of intensive care admission for patients with acute leukaemia. Greater knowledge on the subject will hopefully help prevent complications in this patient group and assist patients, relatives and doctors in making important decisions during difficult courses of illness.

Cecilie is a medical student at Aarhus University.
