Neuroimmune Memory: Mapping and Manipulating Inflammation in the Brain-Body Axis
Assistant Professor
Aarhus University
The brain constantly checks that the body works as expected. For example, the body can respond to infections or injuries with an immune response called inflammation. The brain can remember this response, and recall it even if the injury is gone. We will use a small transparent animal, the zebrafish, to hunt for these responses inside the brain. We plan to find the neurons that can respond to inflammation, and test if they can also remember and cause inflammation. Understanding these mechanisms could help with chronic inflammation.
