Neuro-immune implications in the role of the enteric nervous system in neurodevelopmental disorders

Postdoc
Aarhus University

Audrey Inge Schytz Andersen-Civil, Dept. of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, has been awarded a postdoc research grant from the Lundbeck Foundation worth DKK 2.547.432

This project will investigate how early-life imbalances in immune function and the gut microbiota affect the enteric nervous system (ENS) in models of neurodevelopmental disorders.
The ENS, known as the 鈥渟econd brain鈥, plays a fundamental role in maintaining intestinal health, while impairments of the ENS may explain the high prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders observed in neurological conditions.
Immune and neuronal cells will be monitored in vivo by using transparent zebrafish and advanced imaging techniques to identify causal mechanisms and cellular inter-relationships in our models.
