In some animal species, the developing embryos can enter a state of dormancy called diapause. Intriguingly, diapause suspends the developmental process and provides long-term preservation of tissues such as the brain. This project will investigate whether inducing a diapause-like state in the tissues of the adult organism activates protective mechanisms that mitigate the negative effects of the aging process on brain health.
