Science & Cocktails: Why we remember and how to remember better

Science & Cocktails: Why we remember and how to remember better
26 June 2025
Science and cocktails event

Science & Cocktails is proud to present a unique episode with superstar neuroscientist, author of the book 鈥淲hy we remember: unlocking memory鈥檚 power to hold on to what matters鈥, Charan Ranganath, who will discuss some of the mysteries underlying the way we store memories and the way we forget them. All this just after the trio Track/Abdullah/Rock combine electronic music with live instruments in a unique musical universe.

We often think that remembering should be an effortless process and experience frustration when our memory fails us. Science, however, tells us that the problem is not our memories, but rather our expectations about what memory is for. Most of our experiences will be forgotten, and that is by design, because memory is not supposed to a repository of the past. It is a resource to draw upon to understand the present and navigate an uncertain future.

In this episode, Charan will present the new understanding of memory that is emerging from scientific research and explain why what we think of as flaws in memory are actually features that help us to plan, predict, and imagine. Charan will also provide tips on how to how to keep our memories accurate in an age of misinformation and to preserve memory functioning into old age, so that you can hold onto the memories that matter.

The event is held in English and sponsored by The Lundbeck Foundation and The Brain Prize
