Decoding the neuroprotective action of the anti-ageing factor Klotho

Olav Larsen, scientific assistant, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, has been awarded a Lundbeck Foundation LF Experiments research grant worth DKK 1,994,345.
The aim of his project is to investigate the anti-aging protein Klotho, which is released in the brain. The study will seek to determine whether there is a Klotho receptor in the brain. Theoretically, if this is the case, it should be possible to manufacture drugs to mimic Klotho鈥檚 neuro-protective properties. In time, this could be of significance for the design of Alzheimer's drugs.
