The spinal cord plays a crucial role in transmitting signals between the brain and the rest of the body. When the spinal cord is injured, these signals may be disrupted, leading to a range of symptoms. Despite ongoing research, finding effective treatments and interventions for spinal cord injury remains challenging.
This project aims at designing a hydrogel containing chiral plasmonic nanoparticles that act as optical switches to induce neural stimulation, aiding axon growth to repair the injury. This strategy can curtail the use of invasive techniques, hard electrodes or complex setups, seeking to promote patient compliance.
