Mental disorders associated with negative emotions affect a large portion of the population worldwide. While medication can be an effective treatment, it does not work in all cases. Non-invasive brain stimulation is a promising treatment option that is spatially and temporally more specific than pharmacological options. My aim is to non-invasively alter how humans process emotional information. I will use precise ultrasonic stimulation to alter neuronal activity in the basolateral amygdala.
