Methylphenidate for Early Awakening in Comatose ICU Patients

Clinical Professor
Rigshospitalet

Coma affects millions worldwide. The key question for coma patients is if they will regain consciousness, because if they don’t, rehabilitation is futile. Unfortunately, coma treatment is limited to preventing secondary brain damage. Therapies that directly promote consciousness recovery are urgently needed. To address this gap, we will investigate if a stimulant drug improves these patients' chance of waking up. Coma patients may have cerebral reserves that can be activated to improve outcomes.
