Beyond the Spike: Electrically Silent CGRP Release in Migraine

Senior researcher
Rigshospitalet

The molecule CGRP, linked to migraine, is released from nerves in response to heat or chili, typically causing burning pain. New treatments block CGRP after release and can stop migraine pain entirely, but only in some patients. This creates a paradox: the nerve is still active, yet pain is gone. This project tests if CGRP can be released without electrical signals, to explain how migraine begins and to identify new ways to stop the underlying disease process before any pain signals can appear.
